The Voice UK flopped to 4.5 million viewers towards its final live shows. This is extremely concerning for the BBC after investing £22 million pounds and an additional reported £22M in the up coming 2013 shows.
The early auditions enjoyed high viewing figures as more people were intrigued by the blind audition format. Contestants were judged on their voice and singing style instead of their stage prance and future commercial salability.
In my own opinion, people are never going to judge solely on the contestants voice. For all the manipulations and background sob stories that are bought to the fore front in rival talent shows like the X-Factor. The audience seems to care a lot more about the contestants and seem to find that format far more entertaining.
The battle shows, seen some very talented singers shown early doors by the judges in favor of singers who did not gain the support of the voting public in the later stages of the live shows.
As it stands, The Voice should be reformatted in a way that brings the public more into the lives of the contestants so some sort of bond can be established early on. Much thought needs to be given to making the show more involving for the voting viewers.
It must make very unhappy reading for the BBC bosses and those in the entertainment industries Universal Records who backed the eventual winner to the sum of a cool £1,000,000 recording contract
Along with the shows flop, the winner Leanne Mitchell’s “Run To You” début single even had difficulty denting the charts it only crawled to number 27. Bo Bruce on the other hand, one of the runners up fared much better with an EP she released two years ago as a relative unknown, The Ep is called “Search The Night”.
